In order to fully utilise all areas of this site:

IBA Member Bar Associations and Soros Foundations will need to login on the right.  This will give you the ability to submit requests for pro bono assistance from IBA Group Member Firms around the world.

IBA Group Member Firms will need to login on the right, which will allow you to view and respond to requests from Member Bar Associations and Soros Foundations.

Member Bar Associations should use their normal IBA website login details.

Soros Foundations should use their assigned login details.  If you do not know your details, please contact us at probonosite@int-bar.org.

Group Member Firms should use their normal IBA website login details.

Please note: On your first visit you will need to complete your user profile.

Some fields in your user profile are pre-populated from the registration information held with the International Bar Association.  Should you find any incorrect or out-of-date information in these fields, please go to the IBA website to make necessary changes.

The site provides an online form by which Member Bar Associations or Soros Foundation can outline the various components of the need, specify any resources they may be able to contribute toward the firm’s pro bono efforts, identify any expected costs that the work will generate, and estimate the time frame and scope of the project.  The form is designed to lead the organisation through the identifying steps needed for effective communication of the request to the IBA Group Member Firms.

An IBA staff member will review the request and liaise with the organisation to identify any further questions or outstanding information that may be needed by a firm in order to determine potential participation.  The staff member will also work with organisations who cannot use the internet effectively for submission of requests.

The site will post these requests so that Group Member Firms may log on to view details of potential pro bono work.  The site will also generate notifying emails to Group Member Firm pro bono coordinators, to let them know of new requests for assistance, and the IBA staff member will maintain a relationship with these coordinators to help ‘match’ the supply and demand ends of the equation.  The site will also indicate when a request has been taken up for assistance.

Please note: The IBA cannot guarantee that all requests will be taken up by a Group Member Firm but will make efforts to find an appropriate match.

Conversely the IBA will not engage in in-depth vetting of requests on behalf of the pro bono coordinators at the various firms.

The IBA role will be to perform the base-level due diligence on a request and to make sure that the pro bono coordinators within its Group Member circle are well aware of these opportunities.
